I have a 69 el camino with 15x7 third generation Camaro wheels...don't know the backspacing, but I have 275/60 BFGoodrich T/A tires on them.
They fit with about half inch on each side of the tire. I have never had any trouble with rubbing.
This tire is 28 inches in diameter and about 9 inches tread width....The section width is more like 10.5 inches due to the 7 inch rim.
I think the Drag Radials come in the same size and have a slightly wider TREAD width...about 9.4 I think?
If you going to buy new rim...I think any 8-10 inch wide rim will work for that tire size. The 7's are a little bit of a stretch.
Hope this helps http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I have run N-50's and currently run MT sportsman pros on a weld prostar with a 15-10 rim with 5.5"'s of backspacing. the outer lip is rolled and there is plenty of room.

My 68 has 12"'s of total rubber inside the wheelwell. No cutting or rolling. That's the total outside measurement. Sidewall to sidewall.
9.5" wide rim w/ 5.5" backspacing (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/fc17.jpg)
The rears are 315/35/17.
