: gas tank for a '70
Burnsamatic Apr 8th, 10, 11:47 AM Hi,
I need to replace the fuel tank and sending unit in my '70 Chevelle SS 396. All the catalogs ask wether it's with EEC or without EEC. I'm not sure what that means. Also, I'm assuming I need the sending unit that is 3/8 and 1/4 since it's not an LS6 or L78 car, correct?
Lastly, I noticed that there is a stainless steel tank available. Anybody go this route? Advantages, disadvantages? Thanks!
sparky1698 Apr 8th, 10, 1:12 PM EEC is California Emmisions. I bought a Spectra tank and sending unit for mine:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Wheelhop Apr 8th, 10, 10:26 PM Quanta also makes tanks and sending units
pglade Apr 8th, 10, 11:14 PM Quanta also makes tanks and sending units
Correction: Quanta DOES NOT make tanks.....they are just a reseller like a lot of other places such as the sponsor of this site, or RockAuto.com, Year One etc.
It's highly advisable to check around on pricing and shipping charges. There can be QUITE A LARGE VARIATION on prices and SHIPPING among the various vendors for the same good Canadian-made Spectra brand tanks.
Rockauto seems to have very reasonable shipping.....unlike what I experienced awhile back on a tank ordered from Quanta.
Burnsamatic Apr 9th, 10, 9:51 AM Ground Up is running a special for an import tank plus straps and mounting hardware for $129.95.

Is it the Spectra brand tank??? (Imported from Canada)
Burnsamatic Apr 11th, 10, 11:01 AM Not sure?
pglade Apr 11th, 10, 10:07 PM The Spectra tanks are THE TANKS TO GET....a cheaper tank may be just painted-over bare steel, etc. It's worth the little bit of extra $ to get the good Spectra tank. As I mentioned above...try RockAuto.com also.
Remember, shipping is part of your cost so compare shipping rates also to do an "all in" apples-to-apples comparison.

x2:yes:
I got my Spectra tank (great quality) from Rock Auto also. They were the cheapest by far, for the part and shipping and handling.
Mr69 Apr 13th, 10, 1:28 AM EEC = Evaporative Emission Control.
If your car has a charcoal canister near the LF frame horn, and you want your smog devices to stay intact, you'll need a tank with EEC hose provisions.
Even if you don't attach the canister hoses, you should still get the EEC tank if your car originally had it. You can just plug the tank lines with a rubber cap. But at least it will be there for the future or a future owner who may need to have the smog intact. Technically, it must be intact today, it's just that these older cars (pre 1976) are not smog tested any longer.
Burnsamatic Apr 13th, 10, 8:47 AM Can you tell from the build date as to wether the car has EEC or not?

Just look for the hard line coming thru the frame and up under the firewall on the Driver side.
