Agree. Nice car. A few small detail mistakes from a OR standpoint.. but nothing to cause loss of a sale IMO.

Quickie stand out is Incorrect Dog Dish Caps, and a Dog Dish Cap on the spare would not be correct. I would have left the Passenger added on Mirror off.

He should also install wipers on it :D

Kool car~

Sweet malibu! Love the car, I've got it's twin in the shop but with the correct hood. I never understand why someone finds such a solid car and dumps time and money on it, only to sell. This type of car is a keeper, not a flipper.

any guesses as to worth? :)

Not sure what its worth....But it sure is a pretty car. Do you think the VIN tag rivets being removed (I assume to facilitate restoration) hurt its value any?

Nice car!

I know where one of these is - 327/4 speed, original owner, something of a survivor, I believe. I'm hoping to go take a look at it sometime soon.

Wouldn't think so since it's a 136 car with POP and other documentation. Wish I could find one like this to restore for my wife.

I posted this car in WIW back in Feb. it was listed on craigslist, I think price was in the $40's. I may be wrong but this car is a case of 283 should of been swapped out for a 327 and muncie. It's a sharp car but a 283 is a pea shooter and if your going to put the big block hood on it, original was not your point. I don't think the price would've dropped a penny if it was done with a little more exciting of a drivetrain, but kept looking original in fact I think it would be worth more. JMO Damn nice car just the same.

There is a '66 malibu red with white interior 327/275hp 4 spd in my area with only 26K original miles on it. I hope it's out this summer I'll take some shots of it and post them. The guy that owns it got it from his best freind who died some years back. The story was it had a light fender bender in around '69-'70 then sat in the original owners garage untill 7yrs ago when he willed it to his friend after his death.

Why does the paint code have FFF??

[QUOTE=chevelle7267;2797339]Why does the paint code have FFF??[/QUOTE

The third F is for the wheel color. Fremont built '66's have the extra paint code letter if they where built before Dec.'65

The third F is for the wheel color. Fremont built '66's have the extra paint code letter if they where built before Dec.'65Some did but not all. I have quite a few 66 Fremont tags dating anywhere from 09E to 12D and they're pretty well split between having the wheel color or not. One (dated 11A) in on my ChevelleStuff web site but there are quite a few more on my CD.

Pretty car but I'm not sure I'd spend that much money on a car and either not make sure details were correct or if you're going to upgrade it suspension, exhaust, etc. wise why not upgrade the power as well?

Never understood why people feel the need to give a 'history' of the Chevelle lineup when it's not really pertinent to the car being sold. Four paragraphs about the introduction of the Chevelle in 1964 but nothing about the 'new' body style or features for 1966.

Nice low maintance cruizer, if it's as nice as the picks, LOW 20's would be fair, if it's what you want.

I love those original door panels. Shame someone will not make a repro that is 100% correct. The difference is amazing when you see a pristine original set like these.

The biggest negative I see in the pics is that they bondoed out the vertical body line in both quarters right behind the doors. There should be a noticable veritcal concave "roll" about an inch or so behind the door jambs, but they mudded over them and sanded them right out of the car. A case of the body man not knowing what he was supposed to end up with! Still a purdy car though.

Do you have a photo Jeff of the vertical concave Roll? Maybe Legendary is producing a more correct door panel? Anyone seen then?

Jeff,

I just took a look at the 66-67 NOS 1/4 I have & that "concave roll" you're describing is so slight, I doubt a camera would even pick it up. I actually had to look at it a few times before I could pick it up with my eyes. So maybe they mudded it out, but I don't think one could see it from those pics.

Just sayin...

Really, interesting, Know it not a coupe, but I have a original paint 43,000 orginal mile 327, 4-speed,3:70 posi El Camino, buckets,(no console factory) gauge, tack package, am/fm radio, .. owned since 69, I figured that would be worth low 20's. what do ya think?

It's much easier to see with shiny paint than it is with the dull EDP primer that comes on an NOS quarter. On a really slick car it is an obvious body line. Also, in the pics in the auction showing the body prep work, they actually have included two pics very clearly showing where they filled that entire area to the rear of the door opening with bondo on both sides of the car. And if you look at the side shots of the painted car, it is straight as an arrow from the door jamb back. Just sayin! :beers:

283 malibu what do you expect, if he built it to sell he should of bumped up the cubes but kept the original theme.

Market is not light where I sit.. the cars I have sold in last 3 months have all taken good money... Quality built cars will take good money always.. the car in question is a Malibu and it's on ebay.. I would not expect it to sell for what it is worth via ebay.. need to schedule a visit and see car before you drop major coin. If the fella was to sell this car for low 20's, he would be insane..

the market may be light for daily drivers.. or local yokel car show quality cars.. but IMO, too many people making statements about the market, no offense.. based on what they see on ebay or craigs list or dare I say BJ.. the real cars and real money changes hands privately... I see it all the time...

couldn't agree more, quality cars always demand good money, and as you know people want the SS cars, which is probably why there are none in my garage anymore, never was a big issue with me personally. But since no one has seen the car in question, that I know of, stuff usually always looks better in pics, to me the big plus was it was a 4 speed, other then that, just a low maintance cruzer. ebay is a crap shoot

I thought you said the market was soft? $26K for a stock 283 malibu is good coin. How much more money is that car going to bring, Yeah if you want to hold onto it for a few years you might see $30's. Every one would agree good quality rust free original cars bring the bucks but just the other week a TC member stated his 66SS low option 4spd sold for $44K in just a few weeks and it was far from show quality [No sign of a week market in that area...]. Your point was a soft '66 market so duh where are all the cheap 66 chevelles.

Not trying to be picky since I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the blue hood latch, the blue grille support, and the blue trim tag.

Those 3 things stick out like a sore thumb to me.

I'm not sure anyone here ever has a dog in the hunt, but that does not stop discussion. It's a fine line here sometimes, some want the discussions about Details and others jump all over those of us who do point out small and large restoration mistakes.. so it's a tough call what the intent is when a car is posted ?

Me personally, highly doubt any of the small mistakes will effect the final sale price on such a car. I've spoken to the owner and got answers to any questions I've had and would expect anyone with serious interest would do the same.

eBay is a nice large classified ad for cheap, so don't set the Market on what you see final bids at ;)

Hey, I for one am glad that you guys bring up the "Details" I don't consider it bashing, just answering questions about correct-ness, seems like I always learn something about my car from these posts. Shawn
