I have a 1970 elcamino, on which i have installed M/T, indy ss tires size L 60 on 8" rims. I had to roll the fenders to fit them, my friend has a 1969 elcamino with the same tire, but his are N50 and his fit under his car. The section width on his is 14.5" & mine is only12.3, thats about 2" difference could there be that much difference between the years? I think we have the same backspacing.

How tall are these tires?

The 69 and 70 have the same wheel space with the only issue being offset side to side of up to 1/8 inch.

What this means is he has more backspacing if the fit is different. At 14.5 inches he cannot possilbly clear both the inner fender and the outer fender IF the tire/wheel combination is tall enough (27 inches +) to put the tire into the wheel well. What I'm saying is he better not plan on lowering the car or he will have clearance issues. Take a tape measure and you will find a bit over 13.5 inches if you roll the outer lip on a stock body.

There is always the possibility that some time in the past your friend's 69 was given some custom wheelwell work. A tape measure and 15 minutes work to pull a wheel off will tell the story.
