: Clearcoat removal

I just picked up a set of aluminum wheels on a trade that are not physically damaged but portions of the clearcoat is chipped, faded and worn.
My thought is to remove the originaly coating and either have them coated again or possibly keep them without any type of finish and stay on top of them with frequent cleaning. My question is what is the best way to remove wheel coating? By chemicals, glass beading or what? The wheels have both machined areas on the inside and a nice smooth finish on the outside edges.

Thanks!

Dave.

I think you can use acid. DO NOT have them re cleared the stuff chips, peals and just plan out ruins wheels. It is for guys who dont take pride in there wheels IMO. I love it when someone will say nice wheels and I say thanks it only took 12 hours of polishing on each!!!! I would have to say try acid, or 2000-3000 grit sand papper. I use acid.

if it's clear paint use a good paint stripper, if it's clear anodized use easyoff oven cleaner good luck.

I've had real good luck with regular old paint stripper.
