hi, ive got a 72 chevelle daily driver w/ a 350. i've lowered the front and rear about 2". i've replaced the bushings with urethane. the front and rear has all new parts, steering, brakes (disc front), and suspension. i've got 15x8 cragar 5-spoke chrome s/s mags right now with235/60/15 bfg rubber.these mags are proving next to impossible to balance. i would like to switch to 15x8.5 torq-thrust "d"'s.the american racing website does not list that size for my car and the national parts depot catalog says 15x8.5 may require mods to the wheelwell. it seems, if my cragars fit, the torq-thrusts should too. anybody know for sure?? my daily driver is more of a trans-am racer/road racer than a drag car. i'm looking for handling. any other wheel-tire suggestions? remember, the front and rear are lowered about2"
thanx, tommy#8

Tommy,
Just went trough this myself. I totally dig the Torque Thrust D's, my wife got me a set for Christmas, and I installed them yesterday. Looks Great.
I used 15" x 7" front and back.
And I doubt that 15" x 8.5" would have cleared my rear fenders with 275-60-15s.
But my car sits stock.
I'm not sure but think that the 70-72 cars have a small amount more room in back.
The problem is the back space is 3.75 even on the 8.5" wheel which puts the rim more "outboard" than a same width wheel, with 4",4.5", or 5" backspace.
If I could've I'd have spec.ed 4.5" and gone with 8.5 inchers, with 295-50-15s.
That said I know that I've seen it done, but his back end may have been raised some.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, if you want to use the same size tires (235's) that you've got now, they will fit a 7" wide wheel no problem, thats what's on my car in the sig. picture.

They say I'm crazy, but I have a good time.
