: What would be perfect
Prestonkeats Mar 5th, 02, 11:47 AM I have come down to the last decision, and the hardest on of them all, what wheels to put on my 66 ss. I dont want torqy 2's because everybody has them. i want something that looks a little bit more of a hot rod rim, something that looks like a race wheel. im leaning toward the weld pro stars, or maybe even the daisy spoked american racing rims. whatever it is its gotta be chrome, any suggestions or opinions welcomed. pictures would be great too, thanks!
rwthomas Mar 5th, 02, 3:06 PM Don't know how much you are willing to spend but I am considering Intro Wheels Twisted Vista's for my '71. Think they are about $1500 for a set but maybe they can be had cheaper. A back issue of Hot Rod had a '72 Chevelle with the Vista wheels and it looked good. Pictures available on the web at www.introwheels.com (http://www.introwheels.com)

mahlmann Mar 5th, 02, 5:45 PM My son put the 15" Weld ProStars on his '70 and they look great. We heard bad things about the chrome on current American Racing wheels, so be careful if you go that route. Good chrome may be getting hard to come by.

RussD Mar 5th, 02, 9:27 PM What about the Weld Rodlites? They are a Halibrand knockoff so they are "an old rod" type wheel, yet they have sort of a racy feel to em. I think they'd be a pretty good choice.

66 Beau Mar 5th, 02, 10:32 PM SO what's wrong with Torqy 2's? I kinda like 'em. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Actually, they're not very common in my neck of the woods amd I've probably seen more of the AR Daisy's (200's aren't they?).
I appreciate you wanting to go with something different. Here's a site that helped me - as much in deciding what I didn't like as in deciding exactly what I did. They don't have all the wheels, but you can see a bunch of different styles & sizes.

They used to have a 66 - but I just checked and it's been changed to a 67.
Good luck & post some pictures of the finished product.

What price range are you looking in ?
I like the new wheels from edelbrock, I like the Torq II too. But if your going for them might as well step up to 16"s or 17"s.
I'm too cheap for that.
If price is no object, Budnik Famosas 17".
If you really want something different I like those Radir/Radar (sp?) wheels as they look vintage like our cars.
I think the Weld Rodlites with spinners, is a good idea, they would look Rad.

David Nafarrete Mar 8th, 02, 10:23 PM Here in Cali Torqy 2's are on everything. Go to any show and they are everywhere. I am seeing them on late model trucks a lot too.
Call me simple but I like plain Weld draglites. And those can be had in 16s and 17s as well.

Monte-73 Mar 9th, 02, 12:14 AM Just bought an old set of keystone et's with the 5 hole pattern. They are awesome. So light. I polished for around 10-12 hours a rim after acid and they shine like chrome. I really like them and if you can find a set you will too!!! They are a beautiful rim and alot of old chevs had them so they shouldnt be so hard too find. What about the SS396 wheels or the new 17 cragars. You cant deny cragar has the best looking rim, the timeless classic S/S.
old67camino Mar 9th, 02, 1:07 AM If you want some of the badest muscle car wheels go to a vintage Trans Am race. I've been to the ones at Laguna Seca for the past four years and there are dozends of suppliers with some really wicked rims (although not all are very cheap). These definetly would give you the one-off look your looking for.
S Molter Mar 10th, 02, 2:07 PM nothing special about them, but I just had to put cragar ss wheels on my 68 cause I wanted them so bad as a kid. they still look great to me. I bought a used set of four 15x7 that looked new for only $160 but was afraid they wouldn't be wide enough for my 275x50x15 BFG drag radials. no reason to worry, they fit the wheel well perfectly and don't rub at all. sometimes I think we go too wide on the rear rims and run into clearance problems.

Prestonkeats Mar 20th, 02, 12:01 PM THanks for all the responses. First of all i have nothing agains torq 2's, its just that everybody has them, and recently one of my good car buddies put them on his 67 tempest. personally i like them a lot, but so does everybody else. I also like the cragars, ive always like them and i dont think that they get enough play from car guys, but im not sure they are the right ones for my ride. I think the im leading towards the weld prostars, i love the draglite too, but in my opinion they look more like a hot rod rim that shoud be found on a 34 coupe. thanks again all.
rwthomas Mar 21st, 02, 8:10 AM If you are looking for something different, see the Aug 2001 issue of Hot Rod. There is a 72 Chevelle with 17" ROH wheels (5 spoke design) that are pretty nice and not flashy. Don't know what the $$ is.

1966_L78 Mar 21st, 02, 2:46 PM I too love the Torque Thrusts, but everybody has them now...
checked into the Edelbrock "409", five spoke, but slightly different than the Torque Thrusts...
I do like the Intro wheels (either the Vista or Twisted Vista... Haven't priced them yet, but worried that they will be too much $$$... $1500 for a set? ouch!
Plus tires!!!
Doh! Looks like my ralleys will be on the car for a while...

Gandalf80 Mar 21st, 02, 4:10 PM I really like my centerline razor's, and they're fairly unique, haven't seen another car with them yet!
I believe it's yanniz that has centerline warriors on his car, those were my first choice but they didn't come in the backspacing I wanted. They also look very good.
Both are polished aluminum but they shine almost as well as chrome IMHO and are WAY less hassle to take care of.

Terry H Nov 23rd, 02, 5:39 AM I just put Cragar ss on my 66. I love them!
coop Nov 23rd, 02, 10:05 AM I run the weld rodlites on my 69, check out my site below to see how they look.
P.S since these pictures were taken I changed the center caps to the fully enclosed type, it gives the wheels a very different look.
