: Would you use spacers on the front wheels ?

Ok so Hon, bought me a set of Torque Trust D's for Christmas http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Yippy !
Personally I really like them, and fit the style, I wanted for the car.

Went down the the local garage to have my tires mounted and balenced, put the back ones on looking good. Went to install thr fronts ! d'oh http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif they don't clear the caliper. Arrrrg. My car has the oringinal to 67-68 style (two piston) calipers, but the rotors were thin, so I bought a set of powerstops (I think) from summit,

I wonder if the distance from the outside face of the caliper to the wheel mounting surface, is less than it would have been with the original rotors. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif

So would you guys use spacers, or try to find a rotor that has a greater distance between the above metioned surfaces.

The spacers would be a bunch cheaper, but cheaper, aint always the way to go, esspecially when dealing with a 400+ horse power car, thats darn close to 4000 lbs with my 225lb butt in it.

Would you use the spacers ?
Look for other rotors ?
Give up on the vintage hod rod look, and buy drag stars, or warriors ?

Thanks Thad

I would do, what I did http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I just put my new warriors on the front of my '68 today (have had the rears on for a while.)
15x8, 4.5 BS and we put 245x60x15s on. They clear fine and have room for 255s.

I would'nt see a problem with the spacers, as long as they were only as thick as you need and that the lugs are fully threaded on the stud with the thickness of the stud protruding thru the nut

So if the stud doesn't protrude he should to swap his nuts for smaller ones or looker for an even longer stud? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Longer Studs,
If you have 1/2 inch studs, the stud should stick out past the nut at least 1/2 inch, 7/16ths stud, at least 7/16ths past the nut

Thanks for the replies.

Yanniz, You car looks to be coming along nicely, 540c.i. Wow, the warriors look great and they were one of my favorites too, but I had wanted that 60s look.

UNA4DBL55, & REDRUM, So if I have the dia, of the studs, engaged in length, I'm good to go then ? My concern, was would I pass tech and the strip, and would you do this in a car, you'd haul the wife and baby in.
I think I'll get the measurements today, and get the spacers if my studs measure up.
The studs were new with the rotors so they ought to be pretty good as far as fatige.

I'm currently looking at a convertable 68 velle also, its got drums, front and back, and my wife really likes it, so I may eventually swap the TTD's to that and go drag wheels on my coupe later.

So many toys, so little extra bread.

I suggest you not use spacers. First, you'll need longer studs to maintain thread engagement. Second, the farther you move the rim outward you apply additional stress (shearing forces) on the studs. I know from experience. I used spacers on the front of my '66, hit a hole in the road, and snapped off two studs. Don't do it.

If you use racing quality studs, you won't have any problems.

I have a nova with a similar problem in the rear. I need to add a spacer for tire clearance. I already have longer and stronger race studs. To add to the problem, this is also the car that I race. How do you guys feel about racing with wheel spacers?
