so my friend has a 383 stroker he's selling for $400 but he;ll throw in the tranny for $600 total. the only thing is that he said was wrong is that one of the heads got a bit messed up so id have to buy a new set or maybe just one. either way does this sound like a good steal? the motor and the tranny both only have 11k on em.

Well......assuming nothing else is wrong that is a good price.
A specific question, what is wrong with the head? What happened to it.
Did it drop a valve which might damage a piston and more?
Does the engine run? Does it make noise?

What transmission?

You need to learn more details before judging if it is a good deal.

Yeah, my first thought was... I wonder what else is broke, because the "seller" might not be pawning it off if it was an easy fix.

He's a pretty decent friend of mine and he said It just had a busted roller rocker from high revs and one of the retainer caps on the heads is chewed so it's stuck. the block is good and everything else too just needs new heads with a set including roller rockers and valve springs.
