Here's some info...
72 Chevelle
16 x 8 4.5 in backspacing
255 50 16 on all four corners
I just replaced my springs ( 1 in lowering in the rear & 2 in lowering up front) to get the right stance and it looks great BUT I'm rubbing in the front when I make hard turns. It feels great on straights, but I'm rubbing on hard turns and if I hit bumps while turning. Any suggestions??????
Thanks in advance,
Z

Where are you rubbing? I suggest starting with very tight shocks such as Koni's or Bilsteins and a 1 inch sway bar. That will control the roll of the body and eliminate outside rubbing.

Thanks for the reply. The tires are rubbing on the upper outside edge of the inner fenderwall. I'm already using KYB's and a 1 inch Hotchkis bar up front. Should I swap out the front shocks for some Konis? Are they much better than the KYBs? I'm not sure what to do. I really don't want to go with a smaller tire up front.
Thanks again,

Koni's are ajustable and can be set to so tight your teeth will rattle!

I don't know what you are prepared to do, I'm guessing you'd rather buy new tires then new wheels, but it sounds clear that one of them has got to go and that shocks won't help here.
I run 255/50/16 on the back of a '65 with 5.0 bs (1 inch less rear end width than yours). I use the same wheels on the front (disc brake converted) but with 245/45/16 on the front. A little less section width, a little less height may work for you. Appearance wise I think it's a plus. Could also try 245/50/16 and get the less width but I think the reduced diameter of the 45 series would make your problem go away.
Let us know what works.

I went ahead and bought 245 45 16's for the front and it works with no problems. Now I have the stance that I wanted and no rubbing.....Thanks.

Cool, glad it worked out. What brand tires are you running? I'm running Dunlop SP8000 front and rear and like them.
For those of you that have different front/rear tires, you can fool www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) to give you only tires of different sizes that are the same brand. Try using a car like an early 90's Nissan 300zx TURBO, an 80's Fiero GT, almost any year Porsche 911 to get the proper screen to come up to allow 2 tire size choices to be made simultaneously.
Tires with a 255/50/16 and a matching 245/45/16 are:
Michelin Pilot Sport
Dunlop SP Sport 8000
Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus
Kumho ECSTA Supra 712
Sumitomo HTRZ
Yokohama AVS Intermediate
Dunlop SP Sport 5000
I like this combo a lot since I think 16's are the sweet spot for handling, ride comfort, contact patch, and price.
Anybody have an opinion about a tire from the above list (or any other brand with matching front and rear of this size)?

I'm running BFG Comp TA's. They've got a great deal of size ranges.
Thanks again..
