...To post this in the proper forum, but did not get any takers.

I have a disc brake upgrade on my 66. I have 79 Trans AM spindles & 11" rotors, so I know the tracking got wider but I don't know by how much?
I want to use:

225/60 R 15's up front on 15 X 6 Rally's 3-3/4" Backspacing.

275/50 R 15's out back on 15 x 8 Rally's 4-1/2" Backspacing.

Anyone use this combo?

I believe right now the tracking in the front is 1" wider than the rear with the Trans AM spindles, but I'm trying to recall this from memory. So with the backspacing difference, the outside of the rear tires should stick out 1-1/4 more per side than the fronts.

I think this would look good, and I also want to cure the rubbing problem I have in the front. When I bought the car it had 255/60 R 15'a all around on 15 x 7 corvette rally's.

Also, Can I find trim rings that will work with these "custom" backspacings?

You posed a very unusual question! It may take longer than 24hrs for any input... My guess is it gonna come any faster in here!!

Oh my, not the response I was hoping for!

And yes, if you look at the amount of people who browse this section as compared to the tires section, someone may find my question sooner.

Forget that I asked, I guess I'll look elsewhere for information the next time I don't have a Chevelle Tech 2002 or BodyShop relevant question.

I usually search for this info, but I don't see the search engine up and running anymore.

Ok, I'll take a stab...

First though...Al is upgrading servers I believe this week, and with a billion hits a day, he's got the search disabled.

Anyway, on my '68 with the 12" disks and b-body spindles, I actually don't rub at all with a 15x7" rim with a 3.5" backspacing. I'm running P24560R15 tires on the front. No problems at all. I'm guessing I increased about 3/4" on the track.

Did you change the upper control arms out or use the stock ones?

Cant help with the front I have 215 60 15 on 15X7 on the front(not sure of back spacing)On the rear I have 255 60 15 on 15X8 with 41/2 with plenty of room. I know guys with 66 and 7's that run 295 50 15 with no rubbing on the rear. I will be going with those also when the time comes(bodies off so It will be awhile).

I have Hotchkis upper control arms.

I played around with making my own stops inside the steering box, so there was no more rubbing with the 255/60 R15's, but I lost quite a bit of steering angle.

I just don't like the look of the 255's all around.

I wasn't trying to bust your hump here but when the Big Guy posts this at the top of the forum Al's request! (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ubbmisc.cgi?action=getannounce&ForumNumber=29&Start=2452297.99&End=2452302&Session=2452299.1059) it's kinda rude to ignore the request. I was trying to be nice, sorry you didn't read it that way!!

You better print this thread so if/when it gets deleted you haven't wasted everyones time!

I read Al's request, and I didn't think this topic belonged in Bench Racing, it belonged in the Tires section, where there are a lot less Team members surfing. I figured since the search was not working, that I would be alowed this one time "no no" to get someone to see my question, because I am trying to buy my tires & rims this weekend so they can get painted with my car.

I still think it's enough of a Tech question to post here. I'm sorry you did not read it that way!

And yes, I will be saving this thread if anyone can help me out.

Thank you for your concern!

Okay, okay gentlemen. Let's step back and wipe the slate clean and shake hands. This is just a misunderstanding. There's no need to get worked up about it. Personally, I don't have a problem with anyone posting a thread like this in this forum as long as they gave it a shot in one of the other forums first. 24 hours should have been plenty of time for it to get noticed. We can't expect someone to wait a week just for the sake of posting in the proper forums. If it's not getting any responses in the proper, but low traffic forums, then I say post it in here after a reasonable amount of time has passed. I think 24 hours is reasonable. After all, the reason Team Chevelle tech forums exist is so we can help one another when needed.

Randy - I appreciate the mediation and you're correct there has been a misunderstanding. My intent was not to iritate ETD, it was intended as a good natured way to say have patience. I never would have authored the second post had he not gotten pissy about the site not providing help and going else where!!

There is no rule that says someone will reply to a thread in a certain amount of time and to set an expectation is going to lead to dissapointment!! Chevelle Tech has always been the forum for posting when your question doesn't fit in another forum. Why does Al waste his time building different forums if folks won't use them. There are other goals of the site then providing a place to type. When things are in the correct place they get archived and saved for future refrence. With the title "I tried" do you think this one will make it to archives? I don't, and it could have the potential to have some very good info with regard to way more "what rims and tires will fit"

I guess my admin roll on the Camaro site has me seeing a lot more of the TC long term goals than others do. With the server being being pushed to it's limits it should make us all more aware of protocol...

I harbor no ill feelings
