the el camino will also be lowered 2 inches soon...with that wheel and backspace will this rub...i was going to use a 255/60/15... this only applies to the rear wheels...thanks alot!

i have that same tire on a 15x7 rim and my rear is lowered around 4-5 inches so the answer is yes. According to 65elcamino(brian) 5 inches of backspace on an 8 inch rim is optimum for a centered wheel. Sooooo, yes it will work.(64 & 65 wheel wells are near exactly the same)

I have 255/60's on 15"x8" wheels on the back of my '65 with 4.5" backspacing. It is close on the outside, probably about 3/8" space between the tire and outer fender well. There is about 1" of clearance on the inside so a 5" backspace would work. There should be no interference with the lower shock mount, but it is always best to trial fit the wheel first because of varied production tolerences, offset of axle, etc.

Fourspeed64, That size will fit great. I do have 255/45R17 tires on 17X8 with 5" bs wheels on the back and they are perfectly centered in the rear with 1" clearance on the outside and 3/4" on the inside.

Up front, use only a 7" wide wheel with 4.75" bs. Also don't go more than 235 tires up front.
