: 70 Clutch Fork Return Spring Question.....

Hey Guys,

I have a question, I had to modify the mounting location for the clutch fork return spring on my 70 SS. I ended up using headers and an aftermarket set of heads that interfere with the clutch fork return spring hooking into the frame so I fabricated a c-clamp that goes around one of the header tubes as recommended by a forum member. It appears as if it will work I am just a lot closer now to the clutch fork. My question to you guys is if I go buy another spring that will better work for my application is there a certain "pound" rating that the spring has to be? Also anyone know of a good place to find a variety of springs that may work besides that local hardware store? Any place online (just in case the hardware store doesn't have anything)

Thanks in advance,

Brian

C-clamp? I used a hose clamp around one of the header tubes and used the factory spring. No issues for years with this setup. That spring can be pretty strong or average. No real rating it needs to be. Just make sure it keeps the adjustable rod planted firmly in the fork.

Same here. Used a stainless hose clamp and stock spring. No issues.

If you have 1-7/8" headers go to the hardware store and buy a 2 1/4" stainless clamp.

Hook the spring on the fork and pull it toward the front of the car. Look for the header tube that will suit best. Put the clamp on it and bend a 90* hook in the spring. Attach it to the clamp. Tighten the clamp where it will best suit. No pictures needed.
