hello everyone! I hope someone out there can help! I have 15x8 cragar five spokes on my 66 malibu, but the tires keep rubbing. How can I find out the biggest size and type of rim I can fit on there without having the tires rub? Thanks a lot guys.

Oscar,
For the best help you need to provide a little more information. Is that 15X8 on all 4 corners? Are you rubing on all 4 tires? What is the backspacing for your current wheels? What size tires do you currently have on the car?
I have a 67 SS with 15X8's Ralley Wheels on all 4 corners. I never had problems with rubbing so when I replaced the tires 3 years ago I did not measure backspacing. I do know that the backspacing on the front wheels is greater than the rears. When I bought the car it had G70's on the the back and F70's on the front (Polyglas). I was not looking to put the biggest tire I possibly could fit on the car but more trying to give the factory look... at least to some extent. Thus, I went with P215 or 225 70R 15's on the front(at work now and the paperwork is at home so I am going from memory) and P235 70R 15's on the back (BFG T/A's). I am sure I could have gone with wider on the rear but I liked the stance the car had before I changed tires and I did not want to affect it. It is a weekend cruizer not a drag car so traction was not the issue.
Provide additional information above and hopefully somebody with a 66 or 67 that has filled the wheelwells with some meat will see it and chime in.
As a side note: In the future make sure your question has a hook in it to reel in the experts on a a specific model year. Something like "66 Malibu w/tires rubbing - need max tire/rim combination" You cannot edit your question however so you are stuck. The only reason for this advice is that we have experts around here with experience in specific years and I find that they tend to migrate where they can help the most. Also like I said above provide as much information as you can about your current situation in the body of the posting.
Good luck & I hope others will chime in

OSCAR,
The best thing to do is to give a lil more info. What is teh offset of teh wheels that you are running? is it for the front or rear you are wondering about? Here is what I have I hope it helps. in the front i have 15x5.5 centerlins now. I used to have cragers but get new wheels a lil while ago. In the back i have a 15x8.5 wheel with a 4 7/8 back spacing. and a 275/60-15 BFG tire.I may be able to get a 275/50-15 back there with that wheel but it woule be really close. I do know this i tryied a 10 inch wheel with a 5 inch back spacing with a 10 inch slick on it and it DID NOT FIT. So from my experience I would recoment a wheel in teh back that is 15x8.5 of whatever type you like. With a tire that is the same as a 275/60-15. Thats my $.02 worth. Let me know if ya have any other questions...

I am running 15X8 inch wheels in the back with 295/50-15 tires and no rubbing...
I also run 265/50-15s up front on 15X7 rims...
Sorry, I don't know the backspacing...

Thanks to everyone for your time. I guess what I really need to do is get down and dirty and measure some things out down there. Again, thanks for everyone's help and I look forward to someday posting up a pic of my malibu. Oscar
