They should. We noticed that the bezel/lense is larger than the '68-'69. Not trying to do a correct resto here.

By the way, who has these that fit and look great?

Any and all info greatly appreciated.

As you surmize they are different. I just checked a set of 70 lenses on my 68 in the garage and they will not fit without modifying your quarter panels.

What has to be modified? The opening, or is the actual shape/curves different?

The '70-'72 would seem to offer better protection against leaks.

The opening for the taillight housing and lenses on a 70-2 goes to the edge of the tailgate opening. Not so on the 68-9, these end about 1" from the tailgate. That is why the a small 1" moulding is used to tie the tailgate moulding to the top of the housings. If you were to make the sheet metal modifications needed to mount the 70-2 housing and lenses I would think they would be more likely to leak than a 68-9 housing and lense since it would be difficult to create the necessary surface for the housing seal.
