I have a standard 72 chevelle that I am wanting to do a little bracket racing with. I can not seem to get any kind of traction. What is the largest rim and tire setup availabale to help me with my traction problem. advice and pictures would be helpful. thanks.

I have 18 x 10 inch wheels with 6 inches of backspacing. If your car body is centered on the frame you can go to 6.25 inch backspacing and 325 wide tires. My car body is offset about 1/8 inch and so I had to use 6 inches.

I have 295/45/18 tires that are 28.4 inches tall. The tires fit fully inside the wheelwells.

REDRUM;

Tell us more about the 6" backspacing and type of wheels you have. We would like to get that backspacing with 16" or 15"(?) for our '69 Elke.

There were posts on this site a couple of weeks ago saying no one made any standard wheels over 5" backspacing. We had always wanted 6" as we tubbed our Elke, and moved the shock mounts in 2" on each side when we disassembled the rear end to have it powdercoated.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Torque Thrust will put any backspacing you want on wheels. If you go to 17 or 18 inch wheels the 6 inch+ backspacing just puts the wheels outside of the contact point for the shocks in their stock location.
