I am beginning to restore my 70ss this spring. I need to replace the s/s wheels. The repro's come in 14 & 15, 7" width. Any recommendations so that I do not buy a tire that hits when I turn a corner? I'm not to concerned with the originality, so I'd like to go with 15". Any help/suggestions would be great. Thanks.

You can go with 15" rims with no worries. I don't know how wide of tires you can put on a 7" rim but probably not big enough to cause clearance problems.

255/60 is the max I would run on a 15x7 rim.

Jimmy,
Assuming when you are talking about getting repro wheels, you mean SS wheels, you can get 15X8 Wheel Vintiques Repro's also. On a 15X8 wheel with standard 4.5" backspacing you can fit a P275 60R on the back with no problem. The problem with the 15X8 wheel is the available trim ring. The gap between the ring and the hub is greater than from factory but in my opinon looks OK. I have these wheels on the back of my 70SS. I stayed with the stock 14" wheels on the front.
If you want to stay with the same wheel 15X7 all the way around the recommended max tire size in above post is right although I don't think I would go wider than P235's on the front. The P255's may work up front but I have always liked the look of the widest tire I can fit in the back and a narrower tire up front. I do not like tire rubbing issues and will always be conservative up front.
Also understand that by going with the 15 inch wheel that most likely your speedo will not be accurate and the cops and judges don't care that you put bigger wheels and tires on your car. This can be corrected by changing out the gear at the end of the speedo in the trans but that seems like alot of hocus pocus trial and error to find the right one so I never changed any of mine out and just "calibrated" my mind to know my speed with tach readings.
Good Luck
