Found out that my transmission is a TH400 and it does not have the kickdown switch hooked up. I have been told by a friend that this must be connected otherwise it can damage the transmission. I have searched on here but not finding anything on that-here is the info he gave me:

"The detent (kickdown) system also modifies accumulator pressure to increase oil pressure to the clutches for increased durability, so it is vital that it be functional in all cases.* This means that if a TH-400 is run without a correctly operating detent system (kickdown), the clutches will suffer accelerated wear because the oil pressure is less at full throttle shifts."

Does this sound correct? I had never heard it before...but I that's the case I think there are alot of us that will be hooking it up !! *

Not true.
You don't want detent kickdowns on a blown application anyway.

Yeah, I concur. I run a TH400 with a transgo full manual shift kit...NO DETENT hooked up. I do still run a modulator though.

Yeah, on a bone stock transmission. But usually shift kits modify the clutch hydraulic circuit to compensate for this by increasing line pressure.

My Th 400 has not had one on it since I had it built in 1987. Still going strong as of yesterday.
