: 72 El Camino neutral switch

My son has a 72 El Camino he got a few weeks ago. My question is on the location of a neutral switch. It is a bucket seat car with console. The trim tag verifies it as a factory bucket seat car with the A51 code. We were looking for the neutral switch earlier today when it did not want to start. We took it out of park and put it back in and then it would start and seemed like maybe the neutral switch may need adjustment. But the neutral switch is not located on the floor shifter in the console. I realize it could have had the console added later but it has the correct dash and steering column for a floor shift car. My question is did any factory floor shift El Caminos have the neutral switch on the steering column? The wiring harness in the console does not seem to have a connection for a switch, All information seems to point to this being a SS small block 350. I suppose it was possibly a bucket seat car without a console originally, but people do not often change the dash and steering column when they change to a floor shifter.
Any way, kinda long winded but just curious if it could have come from the factory this way. Thanks.
