to change the proportioning valve do you have to undo the header? The engine is a small block. I hope not someone before me cut the collector off the header and welded the pipe straight to it. thanks for the help.

I changed out mine on the frame rail with a Big Block . It can be done, but patience and the right tools are necessary.
