I am on the brink of purchasing a 1971 Chevelle SS and I have reached a crossroad. The problem is, I found a hardtop at first, but then my friend showed me an ad for a convertible. Both need moderate work but I have plans on what I want. This car will be almost a daily driver and will most likely be involved in some road trips up and down the east coast and be used mainly in CT and FL (doesn't really help with picking as far as weather). Anyway, just hoping people may have some opinions on which is better or just which they like more.
Thanks everyone,
Mike

It's really up to which you prefer. No reason I would have to choose one over the other, just which you like best.

Parts for the convert MAY be harder to find; especially trim items. Check the car over and if anything is missing check with the guys in the convertible forum to see if it is procurable. Some convertible only items are made of unobtainium.

Most all vert parts are available either repro or good used.I didnt have problems finding anything needed. I have a elky, a hardtop and a vert. If I had to pick just one it would be the convertible. To me and my wife there is nothing better than cruising in a convertible chevelle. If you are interested in a finished car(66 malibu vert) a friend has one for sale very reasonably priced. It is a beauty too.I dont think you could build one for what he is asking.I can put you in touch as I dont think he is advertising it yet.

Greetings from Arizona
I also have all three..love them all. I usually drive 2 door hardtop on trips
because its easier to secure at nite then conv. but have taken all three on road trips. Its your choice, look at both and see which one requires
most investment to be the car you dream of... pictures help us alot

It is totally up to you. I prefer my Convertible, but I'm In Wisconsin with a very short time to drive with the top down. I cherish every single time I get to drive it (even if I have to leave the top up).

Welcome to the site, that's a tough choice.I'd probably look at the both of them and see what one was in better shape.
