Howdy!

So I have a chance to buy the correct quadrajet carb for my car. I actually have a choice for either a Nov. 11, 1969 carb or a mid October of 69 dated carb. ( can not recall the exact date..)
My LS5 was built Dec 5, 1969. So with the choices I have which carb would be a better date for me?

Thanks for the help!!!!:beers:

i would pick the carb that has the closest date to your engine casting date.
example,if your engine is casted on october 1 1969 or earlier then take the carb that is dated mid october.if the motor is casted after mid october take the november dated carb.

My LS-6 engine was built in late January 1970 and the Holley 4557 carb on it was built in November 1969.

I think I am going to go with the Nov 11th carb. Looks to be a great match.
Thanks for the help!!!

I'd go with the carb in the best original condition, given price isn't an issue. 40 yr old carbs many times have been modified, hacked on, are worn, and/or missing parts (especially choke linkage parts, etc.

I think if you look closer, your car was built on Jan 20th. It was only a couple hundred VINs from My LS5. Upper LH corner of the build sheet... Doesn't it say 76 01-20??

My #'s matching 69 396 chevelle i bought from the orignal owners daughter 32+ yrs ago this Oct 2010 has a build date of 3rd wk March 69.

The motors casting ids all line up approx middle of Feb 69 , the q-jet is early Feb 69 ,m20 is feb 25th 69,and i believe the 12bolt rear is either late Feb or early March 69 but for some reason i am fuzzy/not 100% sure on the rear end build month.

If the carbs are both in saam approx cond then id go for the Nov build carb for sure.

Dave, The car was built in January but the engine was assembled Dec.5 Shouldn't the carb date precede the assembly date of the engine?

No it doesn't have to. Carburetors, alternators and starters are installed at the body build plant, not at the engine assembly plant so they need to pre-date the body build by a reasonable timeframe. Hope this helps, Chris

Correct, the car was built in Jan and the engine was Dec.
So is a November 11th carb ok with these dates considered?

If thats the case, I would go with the November carb. Thanks for the info Chris.
