I was wondering if anyone knows if i will need to get the " "melonized" distributor gear from GM? I read if not you will ruin your motor and no warranty will apply.They say "Do not run ANY other gear (unless you get a new distributor from GM - it has the gear on it). If you run an MSD distributor, the new gear will need to be honed-out at a machine shop to fit the MSD (the MSD main shaft is larger)." - is this true?

You need to use a melonized gear on the distributor, doesn't have to come from GM but needs to be melonized.

What is melonized ?

Melonizing is a form of heat treating of the metal. It case hardens the surface of the metal, it also reduces sliding friction. Bottom line is a non-melonized gear won't hold up long against the cam gear in that engine.
