I am converting my 68 chevelle over to a CS alternator and getting rid of the vlotage regulator. What wires do i use for the alternator and where do they go. I appreciate any help you can give. The distributer has been changed to HEI. i just bought this car and the engine harness was not connected to anything. The alternator has been changed to CS already but does not have any wires tied to it. The voltage regulator is gone. I have attached one of the red wires that branches off the wiring harness before the horn relay straight to the possitive side of the battery. This gave me power to my key switch. I have attached the purple (12 guage wire) to the S side of the starter soilenoid. The HEI Distributer, i spliced into the ignition wire from inside the cab and ran to the battery tie in on the distributer. The car cranks over but will not fire. Have i done anything wrong here? I have a wiring diagram but it is for a stock 68 chevelle. I have found one gound wire from the fire wall and i attached it to the motor. That is the only ground i have found. I need help guys i am not an electrician at all. This place is great there are a lot of helpful tips here. Thanks for the help.

wow u have a good one on your hands. it seems u have several issues too. my 68 has its original 307 block and heads. it already had an HEI which has red, 12v, wire going to ignition switch. one of the original wires was taped off -not needed from the original points distributor. i would not tie into the 12 volt wire going to distributor(or other power source). as far as alternator, i purchased a pigtail from OPG to convert to an internal voltage regulator alternator. the 12v power wire, from alt, goes directly to battery with a fusible link attached. the external regulator is still in place. dont know if its good or if it matters. i get good 14volts with no current draw. the stock diagram will help u. just run new wire if u cannot find the stock correct color coded wires or missing. have not chkd yet but i think purple wire IS the one that goes to starter "s" terminal. after cheking all this its just process of elimination to troubleshoot a no spark issue. buy a harness kit if its in the budget and b done with it. thx
