My daily driver 66 Elky has bad upper ball joints again. Both uppers and lowers were replaced in Dec 1997. I expected them to last much longer. They have been lubed every 3-4 months. This will be the third set in 12 years.

The car has TRW springs that were installed in April of 1991, along with bushings and both upper and lower ball joints. At that time one coil was cut off. The car rides fine like this. My question is, would cut springs cause excessive wear on the ball joints?
TIA

First guess is the wheels. What offset?

Then I'd guess A-Arm alignment, check for A-Arm cracks, or frame sag.

Then maybe I'd say, cheap ball joints.

I've almost never seen real bad upper ball joints, unless they are 30 years old or on some lifted truck.
