I been stripping and painting everything under the back of my 67 chevelle, and under the rear panel and behind the bumper was 4 stapled rubber pieces with string reinforcements(or what was left of them).

Any ideas as to what this might have been from?

( Thank the lord everything has been solid so for )

Was there some sort of a seal held on by the staples? It seems that it just tucks up underneath the top edge of the rear bumper to fill the gap between the body and the bumps but I suppose the staples must have held something on there.

Yours looks a lot like mine. Pretty rough and a bit wavy.

The factory stapled in cloth reinforced flaps to control water and dust from coming up between the body and the bumper much like the flaps on your front inner fenders over the upper control arms. You can go to opgi.com and search in the weatherstripping section for Seal, Body to bumper. Most all of the restoration stores sell them.
