Ok..... I have the opportunity to purchase a 78 monte with 72k,305/350turbo, 10 bolt, power door locks, new exhaust, tires, radiator, and battery for $400.Are the disk brakes on this car a bolt on to my 72velle or are these considered the "tall spindle"brakes? Hell, for $400.00 I could sell off most of the parts I don,t want and still make out. Is there a lot of demand for sheet metal from this year Monte? I just want the brakes, but may save the other parts to sell if there is a need out there.
P.s. Also has maroon leather bench seats in great shape
Any comments welcome......TIA Don
the discs on this car aren't that much of an upgrade on a chevelle. also please note that 78 used a unique spindle that is one year only for the rotors. now as far as it being a good parts car... you can probably sell off quite a bit. check out www.montecarloss.com (http://www.montecarloss.com) if you buy it.
let me know if you do end up with some parts for sale. I'm usually in baltimore on the weekends.
later!

Fix it and Drive it ! ! ! !
I Bought my first car in '88 when I was 18, (not to date myself) from a Sheriff's Auction for $650. It was a '78 Monte Carlo. I still love that body style. Wish I still had that car.

'78 was the first "metric" year. That's the year they changed from A body to G body.

Don: I say go for it that seems like a pretty good deal, and like you said you could part it out and still make out fairly well on it.
JJ: Would parts from a Cutlass of that year or a little later interchange if so there is a junkyard near me that has around eight cutlasses from around 78-85 if you are looking for some parts let me know.
Leo: If you would be intrested in an 80's Monte Carlo as a daily driver there is one for sale not to far from me if you would be intrested in it, also there is a 70 or 71 Monte Carlo about a mile away from the 80's one for sale too.
P.S. Sorry for highjacking your thread Don.

I think until 1980 or 81 the Monte, Malibu and clones were classed as A bodies. After that then G bodies. When the front wheel drive cars, ie the Celebrity, 6000 et all were then the A bodies and the RWD midsize cars became the G bodies. Clear as mud? GL
