: New Chevelle disc conversion kit from ECI question

I just ordered myself a new front disc brake conversion kit from ECI for my 70 Malibu. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/disc-brake-kit-with-drum-brake-spindles_ec-723ack.html the kits comes complete with calipers and pads, billet hubs with bearings and seals, rotors, caliper mounting brackets, dust caps and hardware.
This new kit uses custom billet aluminum hubs and special brackets to adapt GM calipers and rotors to the stock drum brake spindle with no machining or modifications required and it maintains the stock wheel location. My question is this...Will I need to get a new Master cylinder, residual pressure valves (2 & 10 PSI) and porportioning valves to complete this setup? Anything else I might need beyond what the kit includes and what my car already has as part of the stock drum configuration?

Thanks!!

Congratulations Bob, this is quite a substantial purchase. You won't regret it, I am sure. If you have a 4-drum setup now, you will need another m/c and booster. You might also consider a combination valve, if you do not have one now. I have put the number on a web page http://www.si.hhs.nl/~rob/drum2disc.html

Hope this helps.

You'll also need to run new lines WWW.Finelines.COM (http://WWW.Finelines.COM)

Thanks for the info! So does the combination valve take the place of using residual pressure valves and a proportion valve?

I want to put pretty much the same kit into my 68. Bob, have you put the kit in yet, and what problems, if any, did you have? how much did you end up spending total? and if you haven't installed it yet, let us know how it turns out.

Yeah, the combination valve pretty much takes care of all that, Bob.

The only other thing you'll need is a line lock plumbed into the front brake line between the master cylinder and the combination valve. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I plan on installing the kit this weekend, I'll let you all know how it turns out when complete. I can't imagine I'll be dissappointed. I received all the parts yesterday and everything looks like high quality stuff. The whole kit plus the metering valve, 10psi residual pressure valve and Master Cylinder cost me about $720 including shipping. The only extra parts I need to get this weekend are the new brake lines. Unfortunately the company (ECI) does not carry a combo valve for the kit so they suggested running the metering valve on the front and the 10psi residual presure valve for the rear. So that's what I'm going with. Also, I will not be running a booster, it will be manual front disk. I'm not pushing enough psi to run a booster and I don't want to install an electric pump. I'll put a booster in at a later date once the engine gets redone sometime next year. The Booster was an extra $120

Thanks for the replies folks and wish me luck!
