also, sorry if this is a stupid question, but was the driver side alternator from the factory, my 70, and most chevelles/ el camino's that I have seen usually have them mounted on the passenger's side?

This is how it looked when I bought it last year......

then we pulled the motor, put a cam in it, swapped out the 3 on the tree for a m-20 4 spd, installed complete urethane suspension and body bushings, sandblasted and painted ALOT of parts, did the jeep GC steering box conversion, disc brake conversion, boxed upper/lower rear arms, etc.. Thanx for all the kind comments

I think '69 and up had the long WP, thus alternator is on the passenger side.. correct me if I'm wrong? '68 and under have a short WP.

It does look great! the before pic really lets ya go back and forth and see what all you cleaned up. (I love a clean engine bay).

See ya went to power brakes and discs in the front. I did my self a favor this passed time I bled my brakes and got speed bleeders from a local autoparts store. If you dont have a pressure bleeder or anything I would highly recommend them!

Sweet that you got a 4 speed in it too. we just switched over as well and it truly is a blast.

keep up the good work! and just wait till you get to drive it while ya work on it!

You are correct with a couple exceptions. Trucks kept the short water pump up to 72, they changed to the long pump with the new body style in 73. Corvettes kept the short pump up to 82, although it is a different short water pump than the other cars used. Of course this doesn't really apply to our cars, but something to keep in mind if looking for brackets. The trucks did have a cool alternator bracket that bolted to the front of the head (since 69-up heads had bolt holes) instead of the exhaust manifold.

It looks great... I've got a '65 too and just finished the firewall smoothing like you've done. Yours looks great... I hope mine comes out half as nice.
