: Whats a good rear suspension

Hi. I recently put QA1 adjustable coilovers on the front of my 67 velle and now I want to do the rear suspension. The rear end will have 3.73 or 4.11 gears. Right now it has the stock 4 link setup. I was looking at using Hotchkis control arms and Lakewood intermediate traction bars. I also thought about using a QA1 adjustable coilover rear system also. I'm not shure how they mount and perform though. The car is a street driver and strip when I get there. Any recomendations on what to use. I drive mostly in areas with curvy roads so control and traction are a good thing. Thanks.

I just put some Hotchkis upper and lower trailing arms on my 1967 and I love them. Talk about what a difference from the stock stuff graemlins/hurray.gif

I'll cast another vote for Hotchkis. Check out my '71 Pro Touring Chevelle site below, under Chassis, Suspension & Brakes section for photos of a bunch of Hotchkis goodies.

I am using the Global West lowers with stock uppers. The GWs have a sperical bushing at the front that allows the arms to articulate, even with the stiff bushings...

I used to run boxed lowers and stock uppers with poly bushings, and there was enough bind that made the rear really stiff, and it wanted to skip on rough roads... Replacing the lower arms and changing the upper bushings (stock arms) to new rubber bushings (instead of Poly) made a significant, noticable improvement in ride quality, and although I don't drive too crazy anymore, the handling seems to have improved as well... No more skipping around on rough corners...

Due to the dis-similar arcs the arms swing through, either the upper arms must flex, the upper-arm-bushings must flex or the frame/crossmember must flex... Going with new rigid upper arms and stiff poly bushings is going to transfer that flex to the stock upper cross-member (33+ year-old metal)... Somethings got to give... I have spoken with Doug at Global West about this. Global West doen's thave upper arms, and Doug suggested using the stock uppers which were designed to flex...

I would suggest either way you go, that you use some sort of brace (Hotchkis and Edelbrock sell these) to reinforce the upper frame crossmember...

I'm using Edelbrock boxed lower arms along with their adjustable uppers which use a spherical ball on one end to eliminate bind in the rear suspension. I use this set up on two cars both work exceptionally well, the only difference between the rear suspensions of my cars is one runs the nonhop bars as well. I really like the Edelbrock stuff.

Cut 1-1/2 turns off the rear coils, installed BMR upper adjustable arms and SSM Lift bars. Handles great and smokes the tires all day with no hop.
