The motor has about 6K on a rebuild. The only thing LS6 is the block, it is in nice shape. I did save it from going in a 84 chevy 4X4. Crankshaft is #353039, .060 flattop pistons.

Is there a partial VIN stamped on it? Quite a few LS6 owners are looking for their original engine blocks.

I list people looking for original stuff here - http://www.chevellestuff.com/orphaned/orphaned_owners.htm

...and those with stuff looking for owners here - http://www.chevellestuff.com/orphaned/orphaned_paperwork.htm

Might be worth a shot to reunite it with an owner. PM or email me if you're interested in listing it.

Just had a guy e-mail. He said that the 1970 454, 450HP is a LS-5 not an LS-6, LS-6 came out in 1971?

The e-mail sender is wrong.
CRR is only a 1970 code.
The 3963512 block is correct for a March 17th 1970 CRR suffix LS6 450 hp 454 Chevelle engine with the Turbo 400 Automatic trans.

edit:
For clarification - Two 454 engines were available in 1970 with the RPO Z15 "Super Sport" option package.
LS6 is an "RPO" Regular Production Option for the 450 hp 454 engine.
LS5 is the RPO for the 360 hp 454 engine. It does not have the 4 bolt mains, special crank, rods, pistons of the larger rated LS6 engine.

By 1971 the 450 hp LS6 was no longer available. A few pre-production Chevelles were made & magazine test reports exist, but there are no known 1971 Chevelle LS6 equipped Super Sports in existence. Due to the lower compression ratio pistons required by GM for the 1971 year, the few engines that were produced were down-rated to 425 hp.

Whoever told you that was wrong. The first LS6 Chevelle was produced in December of '69. I think that is the right month/year.

I have seen one exception to the CRR. It was in a 1972 289 block, it was established that it was a crate engine. I didn't find an explanation as to why it was stamped CRR though.

Either he is trying to pull one over on you or he has no idea what he is talking about.
