my buddy says that one of the balljoints broke. not sure if it's upper or lower, but it made a loud clunking sound and the front tire is leaning inward. i limped it home and am now looking for a front end rebuild kit. i want to go with an energy kit, but not sure where to order one. what all do i need to get to do a full front end rebuild?

You could just fix the problem, I mean determine what went south and fix that. Having said that, if you are going to start tearing the front suspension apart, this is the time to do WHATEVER needs to be done! It is musch easier to do it once and be done ($$ not withstanding). For a full rebuild, you need upper and lower ball joints for both sides, upper and lower control arm bushings for both sides, inner and outer tie rod ends for both sides, drag link, and idler arm. You can order the poly bushings from a number of sources, just determine if you need oval or round lower control arm bushings. It is probably best to have a local shop install them (remove the control arms and take them and the bushings to a machine shop)- it's not very costly and might save you from destroying a control arm! I bought the other parts from a local parts supplier (mom & pop) because I wanted MOOG parts. Try NAPA etc. The drag link I got from Ground UP, along with new upper control arm bolts. Replacing the springs is up to you. Do a search on 'front end rebuilding'. BE CAREFUL!! The springs are under great tension! Support the car well on jack stands. Count the number of threads showing on the tie rods and write it down, then install the new ones with the same number showing. This will get your alignment in the ballpark for the trip to the alignment shop. Also note the number and position of shims on the upper control arms. Keep these together and note the position so you can return them to the same location.
Take your time.

I'd guess a problem with an upper. Not that hard to tell if you peak under the car. There's nothing wrong with rubber for a daily driven car. Less squeaks and a softer ride.
