When I bought my front coils from NPD, I also bought a pair of what they call "Rear coil spring insulators" (page 41 in their catalog) - do they go on top or bottom of the springs, what are they for, do I need them, etc.? Is there such a thing for the front springs?

They go on the top coil of the rear springs. They insulate between the spring and the frame so you don't have annoying metal-to-metal squeeking as the springs compress and relax. I've never heard of front springs having such insulators though some folks have installed spacers up front to alter the ride height.

I never saw front insulaters on any early A-bodies but have replaced alot of mid 70's and 80's GM cars that had them.On those models they go on the top also.
