My speddometer stopped working shortly after re-installing the dash last year. I've tried getting the cable off at the speedo end without removing the dash, but it won't move. I can't see a thing with my hand in there so what is it I need to do? There's a littl emetal tab under the "input", do I need to push that in?

Thanks in advance

Yes. The metal tab is kind of spring loaded and needs to be pushed in so that the cable housing can be pulled back. As you have observed, not an easy task getting your hand up there with everything together. It's been a while since I had my dash out the last time so I'm not sure if this is sound advice, but you might try removing you dash pad and attacking it from the top down.

Hi and thanks,

Sorry, should have mentioned the dash pad is off and I'm doing this from the top down... Still can't do it - push the tab and pull the cable with one hand at an awkward angle. Might have to pull the dash again :(

 On the round gauge style you will have to drop the dash. Maybe not to remove the cable, but definitaly to properly reinstall the cable.

Henrik,

Here's one more thing to try: (Again, this is from memory.) There is a black plastic trim piece that is attached to the firewall directly behind your pedals. It is large and you can't miss it. If you remove the trim piece, you will find a clip that attaches the speedometer cable to the firewall somewhere close to where the cable passes through the firewall to connect to the speedometer up above.

Removing that clip may give your cable just enough flexibility to allow you to release it from the back of the speedometer.

Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be.

Bill White is correct,i changed mine a few month ago and did the speedo cable without removing the dash or dash pad on the top.
it is possible when every thing is loosened away.
taking it off was easy,i remember putting it on was a bitch but i did manage to do it.wish i was there to give you some help.

Anyone know where I can find an 84" speedometer cable, not the housing just the cable. I need it for my 64 with a T-10. Thanks
