: bushing squeak, what to do
no1dc Sep 11th, 04, 11:58 AM Finally got the upper and lower A-arms in this week. All new PST bushings, upper and lower. When I move the upper and lower A-arms up and down now they squeak like.... well you know. I've not torqued them to specs yet. Will torquing get rid of the squeaks? Going to install the coil springs and the rest of the new front end components this weekend(I hope). Thanks Pete
72SSAbody Sep 11th, 04, 1:36 PM Pete,
Did the bushing come with any of that snot lube?

Resq302 Sep 11th, 04, 2:14 PM Are they the urethane bushings? If so, I had them on my Jeep and that is all that they did was squeek even though I used the "lube". That convinced me right then and there to never get the urethane bushings again and to go with just plain old rubber when I could. Rubber bushings will also allow a softer ride as you will not feel the vibration transfer as you would through the urethane ones. Again, only my .02 cents from experience.
no1dc Sep 11th, 04, 3:48 PM No there was no lube. They're the polygraphite bushings from PST.
Hi-po SS 454 Sep 11th, 04, 6:21 PM I have the regular poly bushings and they squeek bad. I need to do something about it, and know one has mentioned any tricks to quiet them, so I'm thinking of replacing with rubber since I hear graphite type squeek too. Not a daily driver.

superwrench Sep 11th, 04, 10:27 PM must use grease period on all poly bushing that is the sqeak problem for sure maybe a squirt of wd-40 also since they are installed already shoulda greased them before they went in ...ahhhhhhhhh
WestyJ69chevelle Sep 14th, 04, 6:17 AM try a dab of wheel bearing grease. Put mine together 4 years ago, and they are still quiet as a mouse..not sure if the grease hurts the bushing or anything, but they are still working great for me!
TimC Sep 14th, 04, 4:34 PM I'd stay away from bearing grease as it will eventually deteriorate the bushing. Go for copious amounts of 100% silicone grease. Works well, lasts a long time.
67johnny Sep 14th, 04, 9:23 PM I had good luck using the silicone spray in a can with one of those straw things on the nozzle to direct it where it needed to go.
ssal396 Sep 15th, 04, 12:19 PM A sqirt of Tri Flow will do the trick...
Chevy 70 SS vert Nov 24th, 04, 11:33 PM I am not trying to start a flame war here. But from what I have heard the super poly PST's squeek, no matter what is done. Its a trade off for the lack of deflection. PST didn't promise they would be quiet, just that they were stiffer. Just my 2 cents.
Schurkey Nov 24th, 04, 11:38 PM Poly bushings on my El Camino don't squeek after ten years. Poly bushings on my Father-in-Law's Skylark don't squeek after three years. Poly bushings on my Nova did squeek--guess I just got careless about applying the lube.
