Aside from the dates being of some value to someone,,why spend that kind of money on a motor with no warranty,,personally I don't see it being worth 1/2 the asking price. For a few dollars more you can get a fresh BB crate motor from ATK http://www.high-performance-engines.com.

I would never buy a engine off CL or Ebay. It just seems tooo easy to get taken. A can of chevrolet orange spray paint does not make a fresh rebuild in in my book, who's to say what else was done, with what Chinese parts (the ad doesn't), and how competent the builder or machine shop is. Thats my .02

I don't think I'd feel very comfortable at all dropping that kind of a coin on an engine that I have no idea what's inside. Actually, I don't think I'd feel comfortable just buying and putting an engine in my car. I'd much rather build it myself so I know what's there.

I agree with Gravy_D and MEJ1990TM. Rattle can orange doesn't mean it's been rebuilt. If your very intersted in the engine, see if the seller will open it up for you to have a look inside. If the gaskets were installed right and the engine never fired, it shouldn't be a problem. $3K is alot of money for both parties. If you have a machinist buddy take him along with some of his guages to measure the clearances. If the seller is not willing, pass on it. Also, find out who built it and check with them before cash exchanges hands.

I would just avoid it period. Way too easy to get ripped off and way too much work to make sure you weren't getting ripped off. Just say no!
