Anyone ever done relocated a battery in the bed? Any other locations? I need to relocate mine and would like to see where you guys are putting it.

Thanks
Paul

Quite a few have put it in the smugglers hatch area (panel at the front of the bed). Keeps it safe from thiefs (except the determined ones). Search this forum for smugglers hatch and you will see some ideas.

Mine in the box also. It is double-grounded, a 1" strap to the body and welding cable to the frame.
The Optima red top allows this without doubling up on a single terminal.

It is mounted in a billet receiver, which is bolted to brackets welded to the car body.

It just barely fits under the cover, which in my car is .050" aluminum rather than the original GM/Fisher steel cover.

I use welding cable from the batt +/- terminals. The + cable runs to a Moroso switch backside mounted in the bulkhead separating the interior from the compartment. (switch handle is in the interior). From there the cable runs to a thru-plate fitting in the pass-side vent (now solid steel) and then fwd under the carpet along the trans tunnel to another thru-plate fitting in the .050" aluminum that replaces the heater core/ducting/fan motor assembly.
Once on the engine-side of the aluminum, power goes from the thru-plate fitting to a remote start solenoid, and 12v is distributed to the vehicle systems from that point.

I have zero problems with the relocated battery.

Pictures of this stuff available if anyone is interested.

can't believe I typed all this with the tendons ripped inside my hand. took 15 minutes.

What gaug cable do you guys recommend using for this?

Isnt there a wire that comes off the negative and goes to a relay or somethign on the core support what do you do about that

There is a positive lead from the battery to the junction block which has a positive lead to the horn relay. I ran an 8 gauge wire from the bulkhead connector on firewall for battery cable to pass through to the junction block. It could be run from the starter hot lead to the junction block if needed.

It's best to run a ground from the battery to the engine. If not then a lead to the frame from the battery ground and a ground from the frame to the engine, I would use at least a 4 gauge cable for the ground.

For underhood cleanliness, anywhere in the bed is good. To help traction, the passenger side rear is the best. However this is really only possible if you have a tonneau cover to keep it out of the environment. I used 1/0 cable to do mine.

Hey Eric may I see some pics?

OK, I'll take some on Saturday of all the spots I spoke of and post them and include extra comment if it seems helpful.

I've been thinking about this a while. But, in a recent magazine article, I saw a factory car (Mustang??) with the battery in the trunk. The article said that the battery had Special Vent Caps and a Vent Line to port the fumes. Do you think it is necessary? I know that the fumes are corrosive & probably not beneficial if you breathe them. Seems like the smugglers box would hold and concentrate any fumes. just asking
