How hard is this, as in should I attempt it myself with only a day to do it? I've never done differential anything, so bear that in mind. Also, I will be putting 3.73's in a series 3 carrier [in my 79 c10] if that makes a difference. If its not somthing I should attempt, how much over the cost of the gears am I looking at to get them installed?

Labor for the gear change at any reputable shop should be $200.00 to 250.00 plus any other parts like bearings, seals, diff. fluid and gaskets.

Bored&Stroked,

It's not a big job that requires more than a day if you have the correct tools.

If you do not have the tools to properly set lash, preload and bearing cap torque then do not attempt to do it yourself.

If it is not set up correctly the rear end can whine and experience premature wear.

Good luck.

You need a dial indicator, a tool to check pinion depth, and a torque wrench that reads in inch pounds. There are quite a few readings that need to be right on the money or within .002" of an inch. It took me 10 hours to completely rebuild and set up the rear in my 70. I must have taken it apart 20 times to either add or remove shims.
