On my '72 Chevelle, the hood hasn't shut right for quite some time now. I always have to pull the hood latch for the hood to come down all the way to shut. When I bring the hood down, it is that latch or "rod" that hits the bottom of the hood, but doesn't latch onto the hood. So, that is why I have to pull the hood latch for the rod to move into the right position. Could it be the hinges? Latch itself?
Thanks,
Ethan

Ethan,
Sounds like to me that the hood pin assembly is too far forward. You could try loosening the 4 bolts that is part of the hood pin assem.(on the hood) and see if there is enough play to slide it back about 1/4".If not then you may have to oblong the 4 holes a little.

I'll give that a try, Howard. I will let you know tomorrow if that was the problem.

That was it, Howard! I pulled the assembly on the hood as much as I could and it was just enough for the hood to latch the way it should. Thank you!
Also, if you see this Willie (WillW23), I lubricated the rivet points on the hinges really well and now the hood closes very smoothly. I appreciate your help as well!:beers:

Glad it worked out Ethan,Sometimes some things are not as complicated as they appear. When ever I have a situation or problem I'm not up to speed on,I'll study the area-problem and have of plan of attack and go at it.(Think outside the box);)
