Does anyone carry the seat springs any more? Mine are pretty bad to try to fix. But I might have to patch them up to get by the summer till they start making them again.

Most just go to an upholstery supply store and purchase by the roll. I can't recall the guage but if you search the subject I'm sure you can find the info. If there isn't a supply store in your area you can find them online. You will also need a couple other things such as felt lined clips that squeeze together to join the springs to the frame. I think they are called BW clips or maybe CW clips. Also there is a special tool that is used to bend and stretch the springs. Might want to pick up one of those as well. Of course if the vertical springs that mount around the corners are broken those are preformed and available from parts vendors.

When I tried buying just the spring, I was told by more than a couple of vendors, that the supplier had gone out of business.
Ended up getting the whole seat assy. from Ausley's.

I kept the original frames for when the springs do become available again.

There are lots of possibles when you say generically "seat springs"...

In my '68-72 bench the majority of the springs, and all the broken ones, were what is generically called zig zag spring. This was available online or at my local upholstery shop. And yes it was a roll/by the foot product.

it looks like have 2 more more springs broken and 2 or more missing, that's why I wanted the whole set. I guess i can try to fix what I have and get by awhile and maybe so someone will start making them again.

Take a look in your local U-pull it yard. Take the upholstery off a rear seat (low mileage!) and see if the springs look like yours. They probably would not charge very much for a rear seat.

That is a good idea. I was thinking about doing that. I also figured one bucket cant be too expensive.

Note many modern cars are foam only or foam cast on a frame. Zig zag springs are fairly common. Check with a local upholstery shop.

I just purchased a bottom for one of my bucket seats maybe 3 months ago. I am pretty sure that I purchased it from Classic Muscle. I see that they have discontinued the item. You might check with NPD, Hinshaws and Ausleys. All great suppliers. If they are no longer being manufactured, it has been a recent change. Someone may still have stock. Good luck

Thanks Dave I have called or email all of them. it sounds like the guy who made them died and the wife just closed up the business. I find it hard to believe one guy made all the springs.

I got lucky....

It would seem like a trim shop might want to pick this business up. It would be good filler work

The thing I don't get is these manufacturers sell seat frames with springs. Why can't they sell just the springs?

They make more money on the whole assembly.

Unless something at Ground-Up has changed, they have the springs. Thats where I got them. This was almost a year ago. The frames don't go bad. Most seats only need springs on the driver side.

Ground Up is one of the places I looked at for seat springs. They didn't have them either.

I talked to ground-up and all the other Chevelle suppliers, thay all used to carry them but the company that makes them went under when the owner died.
I just caught a lucky break my Upholstery guy had a few individual springs laying around that he gave to me. I just need to cut some to fit and try to fix what I can, looks like alot of fun.
