Just got my Alumitech radiator and fan set up. Its beautiful. Drove home about 12 miles in 60-70 degree weather half freeway / street. Got home (I live on a big hill about 1/8 mile up). Park in driveway and idle for 5 minutes and watch temp go from 195-230. Then I see the hose came off the coolant over flow. Looks like the inlet to the reservoir was all gunked up and it just came off.

After car cooled off, I looked and then added about 1/2 gallon of distilled water. We topped it off at the shop.

Maybe its just nerves. But can I loose that much in a 20 minute drive?

How much air space are you leaving above the coolant level? For cars not using the overflow bottle, there needs to be a couple of inches of air to allow for coolant expansion. The Chevelle did not have a bottle from the factory and some of the radiators had a line pressed into the tank to show how far up to fill it. Try leaving it at the level you now have and see if the outspewing stops. Probably it will work OK.

Very little. Maybe less than an inch. But I am wondering if the expansion would be that much and if was what caused he car to run hot idling in my driveway. Funny thing, it never got hot like that before unless the weather was really hot.

I've always left about 2 1/2" below the filler neck. The stock syle radiators (Harrison) had a mark on the side tank to show the fluid level when cold. There must be room for expansion when the degrees raise to operating temps.;)

I didnt fill to the top of the filler neck - it was about an inch to the top of the radiator body.

After it pushed out some water, how far down is the level now? It may find its own proper level in a few heat cycles.

Looks maybe a full inch.

Just saw something odd about my spall fans...

This is my drivers side fan. It does not spin freely with the engine off.

In case you dont see it, the pass side fan is not on the assembly completely.

Since the the fan is riveted to the radiator, I wonder what I need to do to fix this.

I better email Don.

Dumb question: I know the 66s didn't come with an overflow tank so mine is probably a washer fluid tank? Shouldnt reservoir tanks have a hole on top to relieve the pressure? That maybe why the hose keeps blowing off.
