I want to get a newer, quicker ration steering box out of a later model car. My question is... What dictates the type of fluid you run, the pump or the steering box. The 65 used ATF but I think a later model steering box uses p/s fluid. Whick should I use?

I still use Dexron II in my front drive Olds 98 ps (R & P).

Transmission fluid tend to foam easier that power steering fluid, however unless you plan to roadrace your Chevelle, I doubt that you would ever encounter any foaming. Newer cars with R&P steering actually use less voluum of fluid and foaming is more likely to occur.
