My passenger tire is wearing on the outside REALLY bad. Ive had it aligned about 6 monts ago but its gotten worse. Heres what i think is causing it, but i dont understand HOW...
When I turn the wheel hard right and make a turn, everything is smooth (not a very tight turning radus in chevelles...!) but when i go hard left and make a turn, the turning radius is much 'better' but the car starts to slow down, and there is skipping and rubbing noises like a tire is rubbing on the road.. and its the tire that is being worn of course. Everything (alignment) is fine drivng straight turning corners... etc.. but when i make those hard-over turns to the left it seems like my drvr. tire is at its proper turning angle but the pass. tire is at a steeper angle.. (if that makes sense).
Any thoughts of what the hell could be out of whack here?

I had a '69 Ford I bought used which was doing that some years ago. Took it to the shop to have it "aligned". Mechanic took a look and said you need some serviceable parts installed first---like ball joints, idler arm, etc. My first time working on a front end.

If you had it aligned six mos. ago and its worse now, it must have been damaged in the meantime or you didn't get your moneys worth on that alignment service.

Take it to a qualified professional mechanic unless you want to get into frontened repair yourself.

Don't make "hard" turns. Wears you car out prematurely.

Also just a note, once a tire begins to wear a certain way, there is no correcting it, the tire wear that is. It will only wear on the outside if it had already been doing so.

i agree with blue..once a pattern is established in a tire it continues to wear(P.S. blue ss you got mail)

My car was doing the same thign but both outside eges worn/chopped really bad. I had the car aligned new tires put on and aligned. The first shop did not do a very good alignment. I had the car realigned with a 4 wheel laser alignment and they found the toe set by the first shop was WAY WAY out of alignment. No problems now after 6more months.
