OK I know this is flogging on a dead horse, but I have been reading posts for an hour and still can't figure out the z bar set up. I am doing a auto to manual swap on a 69 small block. I have the frame bracket side figured out with (L to R) nut, washer, bracket, washer, felt seal, spring clip, nylon stud seat, ball stud, nylon stud seat.

My question is what is needed on the block side? The diagrams and kits seem to indicate that you only need 2 nylon stud seats, however if you dont put one of these in the z bar on the block side, the ball stud has nothing to seat into. The ball stud on my block side does not have any kind of rubber collar on the block side of the ball, so I'm assuming I need some type of seal to keep grease in. But I dont see anything like that in any of the catalogs (the rubber collar). Also with out placing a nylon stud seat into the block side of the z bar, the z bar slides right up to the block and won't rotate.

I've looked at the diagram from the assembly manual 100 times and still can't answer this. My plan at this point is to buy another nylon stud seat and a felt washer for the block side.

BTW, I'm assuming you put a zerk into the threaded hole in the middle of the z bar in fill her up?

Yes the the ball stud needs a rubber seal. Year One used to sell just the rubber seal without having to buy a new ball stud. Give them a call, maybe they still do.

That's all I used on the block side of my '67. When the z-bar is bolted to the frame, it wont reach the engine block itself, & it will rotate fine on the ball stud when greased. No nylon inserts are needed on the block side.

Yes the z-bar gets a zerk to fill it up with grease.
