: my rearend is off center???

I just replaced my axles and seals in my 12 bolt rearend after breaking an axle at the track. Now when I lower my car the rearend isn't centered. I didn't remove my rearend when replacing the axles, so I am kind of stumped. I checked to make sure the drums were seated correctly and that the axles where the same length. That all checked out good. Now my question is what should I check next? Is it possible the polyurethane bushings are extremely bound up or that I bent a control arm?

How far off is it? Pic? a quick visual should rule out bent control arms if it's off by very far.
If it's not off too far, you might need to disassemble and inspect every part.

About a half inch difference from side to side (driver's side tire is about a 1/16 of a inch away fron the fender.) I have always had about a 1/4 inch difference, but now it is to much. I run 295/65r15's on 10" rims, so there isn't much room for side to side movement. I am going to tear it apart this week, I'll let you know what I find.
Thanx,
Tom

Just to chime in, I met a guy with an original 66 SS last fall, and he said the rear axles were not centered.

Not sure it made sense to me, and I have not measured my 66. But the drivers side rear wheel was harder to get back on than the passenger side after I got it back to stockish ride height.

Anyone know for sure?

You just replaced your axles?? Are you absolutely sure both axles are the same length as the two you just removed?

I thought I had the same problem with my car. Turns out one of the quarters was sticking out farther than the original. It makes the rear look like it is sticking out to one side. We finally figured it out when We measured from the inside of the frame to the axles.
