: Caddy RR ebrake Cables & Lokar cables??
I thought I posted this earlier, but I can't find it.
Has anybody installed the caddy rear discs, using the Lokar universal cables? That's what I'm set to do here in the next couple months. Went looking for possible new e-brake cable for the calipers, but only the left is available new ('79 Seville). My 'yard' cables off the old calipers aren't in the best condition, and wanted something new to try hooking up to the Lokar setup.
Anybody w/ info on new ebrake cables, and/or having used the Lokar univ. intermediate cables, let me know.
I'll post when I get things figured out regardless.
Any new info appreciated. Found nothing real helpful in searches of past posts.

fyi, my '79 Seville calpers are of the 'small' variety (I believe), w/ the 'stout'/large backing plates. Also, fyi, these caddy rear discs won't clear 15" steel rims, but DO clear Centerline Autodrags (at least on the shop floor--I'll post for sure when things are together).
Sorry about the double posting...I swear it wasn't there before.
Time for another beer...
Ike,
If you do a search for rear ebrake cables, you can get some part numbers for the cables I used when I did the rear Caddy disks on my Chevelle. I searched thru 'The Book' at the parts store for a long time to find some that would work and had the correct ends, then I just had to find an intermediate cable that made up the difference. It worked well and is pretty cheap.
The only difference is I used the rears off a '77 Fleetwood which ahve the large backing plates and the Large calipers. But they do clear a 15" steel rim with no problems... not sure why your's wouldn't.
Good luck,
Bill C.
Thanks! I looked, but didn't find that thread. I'll look again tonight. I ordered the 'one' that was available for the '79 Seville...it should be here tomorrow to see what it is I get.
I'll email you pics of my brakes when I get 'em mocked up, if you're interested. Mine would NOT clear my rally's, forcing me to look for specs on the back side of the Centerline Autodrags, which do have about a 13.5" rear clearance.
I'll also post when I figure out how the hell to hook up this Lokar cable setup I have.
That's pretty strange that they would not clear your wheels... they really are not that big of a brake! What rotors are you using? Like I said, mine are off a '77 Fleetwood which I found out later have a pretty unique rear disk brake system. They have the large backing plates, but also use large calipers in the rear. They are the same physical size as a front caliper from the stock Chevelle! I actually used some front calipers on the rear before I got the ebrake thing figured out.
Anyway, I'm just using the 15" Rallies also and mine cleared with no problems. I'm using the 11" rear TA rotors also...
Good luck,
Bill C.
When I mocked everything up on the backside of the wheel, I seem to remember it was not just the ebrake cable bracket, but the caliper, that was hitting the rim.
fyi, the wheels I was fitting to were 15x10 aftermarket rally's. Maybe they would have cleared my 15x8's, but that was not the wheel size I was wanting to use following reassembly. Sorry if my post was lacking information, but I cannot recall if I even fit them to the 15x8's right now.
As I progress w/ the painting/assembly of components, I'll take some extra pics of the assembly next to a rule, and laid inside the back of the wheel.
New info:
I mocked up the Lokar cables, and saw how everything goes together. The Lokar cables connect to the Lokar center handbrake (which I'm using), and run back off a connecting block to replace the intermediate cable in two cable housings, allowing you to run them in the frame rail, eliminating the 'body-rub' setup.
However, the end of the Lokar cables (L&R) with the crimp-on stop is too small to use with the cable connector needed to use the e-brake cables. I've seen in posts how guys have sent cables into Inline Tube to have ends crimped on, but was wondering if anybody has a better solution. You can see the cable hookup for the handbrake end here
http://www.lokar.com/ebrakes.html
and both ends of the cables here
http://www.lokar.com/brake_con_cables.html
paying special attention to the ends w/ the springs, which have the 'tiny' crimp.
Seems to me that the best solution is to send the cables in to have the 'large' button crimped on.

Yes, I seem to recall another TC member having trouble with some 15x10" rims... 454 is the username, thos it's spelled out! He is the guy that developed and now sells the pinion-mounted parking brake setup that is pretty slick. It allows you to simply use the cheap front calipers on the rear disks and gives and simple, better performing ebrake.
Anyway, Not sure what to say about the cables... have you contacted Lokar about this? Since you bought the cables from them, maybe they would crimp on some bigger ends if you sent them back?
Good luck,
Bill C.
