I have broken 2 gear pullers trying to get the pitman arm off to swap it onto a high ratio box. I bought the Craftsman Pitman Arm Puller (tie rod puller style) but the fork is too narrow to use it.

What can be used?

Thanks

I used the $15 "OEM" brand one from Autozone. Worked for me.

Ryan-

Are you using a puller that looks like this:

Had to do the same thing a few months back. I was using the type of puller in the link - snapped the ears off twice. Had to weld and grind it back together.

Eventually some good pre-load, some heat (propane/mapp torch) and a solid WHACK popped it loose. Make sure the box is chucked in the vise well!

Anyone know where to get the type of puller in the link elsewhere, its $22 + tax + shipping + $10 charge for orders under 50. $40 is a little much.

I wish sears made one :(

thanks for the help.

Try a few local auto parts stores or call KD directly and have them tell you where the closest place that sells KD tools.

I rented the exact tool from Autozone last month. I hope you have one near you. They will lend you the puller for a deposit of about $20. You get a full refund when you bring it back.
