: ok '65 owners... need a pic
troposcuba Mar 7th, 10, 3:25 PM fellas, I need a pic of the trim that goes over the doors in a '65 SS. trying
to figure out what goes in there and what it is that i am missing. In fact any interior pics of how a '65 SS should look would be quite helpfu. i have not had a lot of luck searching for them.
thanks ahead of time.
sean see if these will help http://www.chevellestuff.com/1965/chevelle/interiors/interior_bucket.htm

thanks, but no real good pics of the door/headliner area. C'mon '65 owners, there has to be some of ya out there with nice headliners that want to post some pics to show off (and help me a ton!)
Rich-L79 Mar 8th, 10, 3:10 PM This kinda shows you want you need. There is a small piece that screws to the top of the a-pillar, a long piece that goes above the doors and a medium sized piece that runs down along the c-pillar. All pieces are anodized aluminum and the two long pieces have large steel clips that slide inside the trim which are then clipped to the pinch weld of the roof panel and help hold the edge of the headliner to the roof (although the glue that goes there really takes care of that for the most part).

BTW, this trim is not reproduced and it is pretty hard to find a useable set. Only 2-door hardtops used this trim but Malibus and Super Sports both used the same trim.
troposcuba Mar 8th, 10, 3:15 PM yeah Rich, that's what i am looking for. got any of the part on the C-pillar? I have the part on the A pillar, but not the other two. guess i am goin swap meetin when i get back to the states in a couple months.
Rich-L79 Mar 8th, 10, 4:11 PM I've got a few spares here and there but they are all pretty rough.
GasNOil Mar 8th, 10, 5:35 PM Without question, one of the hardest parts to find for a '65 hardtop. No reproductions... I think 64 and 65 are the same. Good luck on eBay... They fetch huge $$$ even for rough pieces... make sure you get the clips, too.

I found one complete set but they are REALLY rough (and the only spare set I have). Not sure I have any clips though. I'd only offer these to you as a last resort as I'm sure you be better off finding a better set.
Verle Mar 14th, 10, 9:36 AM Sean,
I have never seen the trim pieces at a swap meet.
That is something I overlooked when collecting salvage yard parts (when they were still in salvage yards) so I only have one set.
Maybe post an a want ad on ebay and/or craigs list.
mino65 Mar 14th, 10, 10:07 AM I think there are 2 sets on bag now.
StevenS Mar 14th, 10, 10:34 AM Looks like 65 has nicer interior design then 64. Maybe I should buy the 65 interior in 2 tone. Thats my next project redoing the whole inside. After reading this thread I have to look and make sure all my trim is there:eek:
Turbos10 May 6th, 10, 3:31 PM I have one side extra that is perfect, no dents or bends, and are actually stainless, not aluminum. Not sue which side, but I can figure it out. PM me if you are interested.
Lilracr May 8th, 10, 9:12 AM Are you sure the trim you have is the interior trim for the headliner? The pieces I have are aluminum. So did they make this in aluminum and stainless?
Verle May 8th, 10, 6:46 PM The trim I have is aluminum, early 65.

Perhaps I am talking about the wrong pieces. What I have is the piece that holds the upper door seal. In the picture I thought that is what was shown. I guess maybe there is another piece that actually hold the headliner. My car just has windlace to physically hold the headliner, but it is a 64 as well. If that is not what you are looking for I appologize. It is definately stainless.
Blitz May 9th, 10, 2:50 AM I better go check mine too. LOL

hey fellas, while you are checking them, do me a favor and get some pics of that piece so I know what we are looking at.

To be honest I still don't know what piece we're actually looking at. I just figured I'd look and see if anything looked like it wasn't there. LOL

thanks Kieth... that helps a ton. I can tell ya fo sho, mine aint there. all i got is no trim and a glued headliner seam over the door.
start with a gutted basket case like I did, and you will wonder what ya got right and what is "close enough". in the end though, no worries, it still blows the tires off in fourth gear. tons of fun!
Blitz May 9th, 10, 5:10 PM Snapped about four shots. Not sure if they're what you're looking for. Photobucket is being a bear, combined with some laptop issues. If you'd like I can email you the pics for the time being.
GasNOil May 10th, 10, 4:44 PM Here's a pic of the six pieces (they are bright dipped aluminum, not stainless):

this is from an ebay auction that ended recently. They went for $160 or so inc. shipping but seller couldn't confirm he had the clips. You could try True Connections for a decent used set.
Turbos10 May 10th, 10, 9:10 PM Hmmm...thanks for the pic. I actually have those too, but could not figure where they went. Does anyone have detailed pics of this installed? My car just has windlace along the edge of the headliner. The car came with a pile of moldings in the truck.....

Lilracr May 11th, 10, 1:07 PM Yes that is the trim I was talking about, I have the long pieces and the corners, but I am missing the shorter down piece.
I would love for it to all the installed and complete in my car, but I am slowly getting it all together, and trying to gather a piece here and there to finish it.
Verle May 15th, 10, 12:46 PM If you do not have the clips that will be a real problem unless someone here has extra.
They are not reproduced that I can find.
Install clips into the pieces, the down piece slips into the upper, then push onto the pinch weld. Be careful to push directly on the clips, not between, the aluminum will bend easily. You will have to do some trial fits to get it right, the determining factor is where/how the down piece and upper fit to the corner.
The third piece fits on the windshield end of the upper, about as far forward as you can get it. Locate the screw holes where it was installed before, probably hidden by the headliner.
