I would have the luck of getting an 4 piston caliper car....the inside of the calipers are pitted and rusty, i've heard they can be bored and sleeved, anyone have this done? I'm trying to keep it original and hate to see those original casting numbers go away!

This may be the technique that got "stainless steel brakes " started. That was a common fix in the 1970's. Give them a call; if they can't do it maybe they can tell you who can.

JWagner..Call whom???

Gold eagle classics in Portland, Or. has remans at $150+ each (and my cores)...still would like to keep my correct casting numbered calipers if possible. Gold Eagle is looking into weather or not the reman company will do mine and send them back. I still like the idea of stainless sleeves though....longevity.....

Stainless Steel Brakes (SSBC)

http://www.ssbrakes.com/

here is a quote form their site -

SSBC started out by stainless steel sleeving Corvette calipers in the 1970s. Since then we have not only developed a complete line of performance disc brakes, but we also have the technology to restore many vehicle components to better than new condition, all while maintaining the original stock look of your vehicle. Parts we can restore are:

Calipers
Master cylinders
Boosters
Slave cylinders
Clutch cylinders
Wheel cylinders
Treadle vacuum units
Hydra vacuum units
Brake amplifier valve cylinders
Whether you have a Corvette, Ferrari, Jaguar, or another exotic vehicle, our expert staff of technicians can quickly and efficiently rebuild your originals to better than new condition. We completely dissemble your parts, remove all the rust and grease and grime, and then rebuild them with modern internal components. This gives you the advantage of having modern parts that look original to your vehicle. And no one does this better than Stainless Steel Brakes - after all, this is how we got started in the business!

Paul, we were discussing master cylinder sleeving. The place of discussion also does calipers. Check it out.

Just got the skinny from Gold Eagle. The calipers they offer are actualy rebuilt stainless sleeved and O' ringed...
I was told there were only two casting numbers for the '67-'68 four piston calipers on Chevelle/ Elco's, so i can get the correct ones. Heck, i'm just glad to keep the original four pistons for originality sake and i've heard that the sleeved calipers dont have leaking problems as the originals did...we'll see! Thanks to all the help from you guys and the wealth of information on this forum, i may actually get this beast back together properly!
