I did a search and came up empty. What gauge metal was used originally for fenders ('70 specifically)? Decimal equivalent would be great but gauge will work too.

I just found this and it seems to make sense.

When they "deep draw" sheet metal to make body parts by stamping them in between big dies, sometimes the same part will have a variety of thicknesses in it, depending on how stretched it is. It seems like most of the older American car bodies are 18, 19, or 20 gauge, but sometimes the same part can measure more like 20 gauge in some areas and 18 gauge in others after stamping.

And heres this off my web site. http://www.1969supersport.com/smthoughts.html

So 19 gauge would be 0.0418 for standard steel.

So lets do this. In our tool and die shop years ago if we measured something with a micrometer and it read 0.0418 all 45 of us that worked in there would call it fourty one thousands and 8 tenths.

I just found this which might be of interest.

Let's be a little more precise. Your question is ***** and has no answer but here are answers to two similar questions.
Ten thousands of inches is written 10,000-inch.
Ten thousandths of an inch is written .010-inch.

1/1000 = .001
10/1000 = .010

1/10,000 = .0001

one thousandth of an inch is .001-inch. (ten of these add up to .010)

I agree with RAP. The question in itself isn't very clear. It leans towards the possible .0001 for (1) 10 thousaniths of an inch. forgive my spelling-I'm not sure which is correct.
